Join established carver Courtney Petley in this expanded spoon carving class. You will make a spoon from start to finish.
First you will design a piece that will make the most of your timber’s unique grain, is strong and will last. Then, you will begin with a piece of rough sawn native timber, learning how to clean it up and make it square using the jointer and thicknesser.
Courtney will teach you how to safely use a band saw to cut your spoon out. You’ll learn correct and safe use of carving tools: a hook knife and a blade, to carve your spoon’s scoop and shape the back of the spoon and the handle. Finally, you’ll sand and oil your spoon, finishing it to a high standard.
